An article written by a researcher from the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Science, University of Zabol was published in the prestigious journal Advanced Functional Materials.

This article is titled:

Defects and Disorder in Covalent Organic Frameworks for Advanced Applications

It was published in the prestigious journal Advanced Functional Materials with an impact factor of 19, published by WILEY.

Crystalline porous organic polymers (CPPs) or covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are one of the most important and interesting classes of porous and crystalline organic nanomaterials made from light elements. In recent years, these two- or three-dimensional structures have attracted the attention of researchers worldwide due to their unique properties such as very high specific surface area, porosity and high stability, in the fields of catalysis, photocatalysis, energy, adsorption, separation, medicine, etc. However, despite the significant progress achieved, there are still limitations that limit their development and application. Some of them are related to the presence of defects during their synthesis process and the deep understanding of the structure and function of the active sites and/or the details of the reaction mechanisms.

In this article, defects and imperfections in COFs and their various application areas are discussed and presented. First, general points about the synthesis of COFs are presented, then different methods for controlling and managing defects, how to minimize them or how to use them to obtain new and impressive properties and applications are presented. Next, identification techniques for quantitative determination of structural defects and active sites in COFs are also presented. Finally, challenges and opportunities in this field are discussed.

This article was published by Dr. Alireza Oveisi (Professor of Organic Chemistry, University of Zabol) in collaboration with Dr. Saba Daliran (Assistant Professor of Organic Chemistry, University of Lorestan) and colleagues from the Polytechnic Universities of Valencia (Spain), Madrid (Spain), and Madurai Kamaraj (India).
